The Brotherhood Calls For Change

By: Jimbo Brown

African American sports figures have took a stance for equality for their race throughout history. Greats such as Muhammad Ali, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Tommie Smith have publically expressed their position when the spotlight was on them. Wednesday night, The Espy's Award Show took place. The Brotherhood kicked off a night that is full of laughs and “best of”, with a social conscious intro.

The black community has been waiting for our role models to use their platforms for other than for profit. The Brotherhood called out to their fellow athletes to step up and become the change we need. Start to invest their time, effort and resources back in their communities to better our situation. The cease of gun violence such as events that happened in Dallas and Orlando has to cease. The innocent lives of African Americans being taken were the catalyst for this intro. Being black in American and the things we go through resonates with the successful. No matter their status they know what it is like being racially profiled.

We are moving in the right direction as a society. Athletes can’t be scared to lose endorsements or relationships because they have a specific opinion. Their voices will inspired others to get out and start the process.
